Steamboat Quiet

Before the coast, there was Colorado — and this is the Colorado I still carry with me. Snow settled deep between the aspens, everything hushed and still, like the whole mountain was holding its breath.

This was taken many years ago, but the name stuck around longer than the photo itself. Anytime it gets that still outside — that no-sound, no-movement kind of quiet — we still call it Steamboat quiet.

This one's for anyone who knows what it's like to stand in the woods after a fresh snowfall and just listen.
